Rest & Digest Glycerite 100ml (Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Oat, Rose, Cali Poppy)
Made with homegrown Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Rose, Oat, a little California Poppy, and Organic Vegetable Glycerine.
Lemon Balm and Chamomile support digestion through their carminative and antispasmodic actions. They are effective ‘after-meal' herbs for supporting indigestion, release of bloating, gas, spasm, discomfort or fullness.
Lemon Balm, Chamomile and California Poppy are categorised as nervine herbs. They act via antispasmodic and sedative actions on the digestive and nervous system, supporting the transition to ‘rest and digest’, also referred to as the parasympathetic state of the autonomic nervous system.
All herbs in this formula are specific for treating restlessness, sleep difficulty and overactive nervous systems where there may be difficulty finding rest. Oat is considered a nervous system ‘trophorestroative’ tonic herb.
Dosage: I recommend this herbal glycetrate as a post-meal digestive or before-bed medicine. Add 1 teaspoon to warm water and enjoy sipping slowly.
2-5 ml (half to full teaspoon) maximum three times a day. Take as needed.
Take direct or add to warm water and enjoy it as a sweet herbal infusion-tasting medicine.
Safety: Safe for children and in diabetes, not recommended in pregnancy. Lemon Balm is cautioned in thyroid conditions, Chamomile has known allergies. California Poppy is added to this formula in a small dose, high doses may have increased therapeutic or adverse effects when used with benzodiazepines and sedatives. Rose is cautioned in kidney disease. Oat is cautioned for gluten-sensitive and Coeliac disease sufferers.
Ingredients: 1 part Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis), 1 part Rose (Rosa canina), 1 part German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), half part Oat seed and straw (Avena sativa), half part California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica), Organic Vegetable Glycerin, Filtered rainwater.
This is a 1:10 preparation.
What is a herbal glycerite?
Herbal glycerites or fluid glycetrates are alcohol-free herbal preparations, made from vegetable glycerine, a thick, clear, sweet-tasting liquid.
They are a popular herbal medicine alternative to tinctures, as they do not contain alcohol, they are safe for children and taste very sweet and palatable in comparison to tinctures.
Herbal glycerites are essentially “strong herbal infusions that are frozen in time” (thank you for this definition, Nicole Rose).
Glycerine is low in sugar and low on the glycemic index, so it does not affect blood sugar and is safe for diabetics.
Glycerine has a mild laxative effect and supports digestive processes (peristalsis).
Glycerites are generally not as potent as tinctures but are a suitable alternative (effectively extracting water-soluble plant constituents) for those who do not consume alcohol.
